The Lindeman Lake trail hike is a popular tourist destination, which consists of hiking up a summit of 200 m with a 3.5 km round trip. It's a well-trafficked trail with a mainly uphill trek, along with an incredible view of the mountains and clear blue water at the top.
The overall trail is considered moderately challenging, and it consists of many steep areas which may require hikers to pull themselves up. Despite this, people enjoy going out with their family and it appears to be an area for all ages to enjoy.
Once at the lake, many have picnics, go swimming, observe the surrounding wildlife, or continue on route to Greendrop Lake. The massive trees serve as good shade beneath the beating sun. Which, for this trip, was unusual due to the common rainfall in past few years.
Something that many of us undermined was the amount of water we would need for the hike. For the people who get dehydrated easily or drink a lot of water while being active, I'd strongly recommend a larger water bottle or an extra one. It is not fun to be trekking across rocks and slopes with a dry mouth.
The cliffsides were steep, and the possibility of falling was terrifyingly real. Despite the minor endangerment, the views gained from it we will never forget. The mountains were covered in boulders but the mere height of them created a gorgeous moment for passing hikers.
"This hike is more like a stroll," -Ms. Yule
Safe to say, we all have our definitions of a "stroll." Just kidding! The EDGE teachers are always amazing as we continue our treks. That alone is reason enough to join the program and challenge yourself.
To expand on this, here are some reviews from other hikers;
"For those who enjoy the outdoors, this is an amazing option for a daily trip. You can not go wrong with all this beauty." 4/5
"The hike to the lake is not flat or easy, but we made it with a dog and 7 year old. A new outhouse has just been constructed. You can sleep overnight on platforms and use the cables to secure your food." 4/5
"Did a lot of research prior to embarking on this hike as I’m a newbie… It doesn’t just have steep areas, it is all steep - knobby roots, climbing over jagged rocks, and uneven terrain the entire way. I’ve seen people say it is great for kids - I wouldn’t recommend it unless they’re older. This hike is most definitely intermediate, not easy. Not by a long shot! View is breathtaking, but I won’t be doing this again until I’m much more experienced!" 3/5
The overall rating for this hike is a 4.4 / 5 on Trip Advisor, which isn't too bad at all. It is classified as "intermediate" on Vancouver Trails, advising more experienced hikers to challenge the steep terrain. However, as stated above, it is a popular spot for all ages despite the tough climate. It is greatly recommended to bring extra water and electrolytes to prevent lightheadedness and dizziness.
From personal experience, as someone who rarely hikes, the hike is most definitely possible for beginners, especially when at your own pace. The first half is quite steep, but only around 15-20 minutes. After that, you can take a rest at the top and admire the lake before trekking to Greendrop along a rockier terrain. Nowhere near as steep as the beginning, however.
If you do decide the challenge this hike, make sure you know what's coming!
